1. The Forest (2016)

The Forest is a mystery horror movie directed by Jason Zada and produced by Tory Metzger, David S Goyer, and David Linde. The lead role of the film involves four main characters, Sara Pierce, Rob, Aiden, and Jess Pierce, played by Nadja Mazalica, Taylor Kinney, Eoin Macken, and Natalie Dormer, respectively. Reviewers have called this one of the most exciting and well-written psychological horror movies ever. The movie takes place in a forest located north of Mount Fuji.

The story revolves around the main character, Sara Pierce, trying to find her twin sister along with a park guide and a reporter. The park guide tells her that her sister is most likely dead as the forest is known to be a suicide forest, but this does not stop Sara from looking for her sister as she believes her to be alive.

The Conjuring is a spooky, supernatural horror movie released in 2013. The Conjuring has a special place in the hearts of many horror movie enthusiasts due to its scary costumes, unpredictable jump scares, and satisfying ending. Infamous James Wan directed, and Tony Derosa-Grund produced this film. The lead roles involve demonologists, played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, and the father and mother of the family, played by Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor.

The movie is set in 1971 when a family of seven moves into a farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island. They immediately encounter strange instances as their dog refuses to enter the house, and all the clocks stop at 3:07 a.m. After experiencing an evil spirit, they finally contact renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren.

3. Truth Or Dare (2018)

Directed by Jeff Wadlow, produced by Jason Blum, and written by Michael Reisz, Truth or Dara is a horror movie released in 2018. The main characters of the film, Olivia Barron and Mackie Cameron, are played by Lucy Hale and Violett Beane. Many reviewers love the uniqueness and the different direction this horror movie takes. 

The story begins with a group of college students going to Mexico for a vacation, where they meet a man named Carter, who invites them to take the party to an abandoned church. They play truth or dare there, which was suggested by Carter and soon reveals that he made them play a supernatural version of the game. They are to do whatever the game asks; otherwise, they will be killed.

Insidious, directed by James Wan and produced by Jason Blum, was written by Leigh Whannell and released in 2010. Lead roles involving the father, mother, and Elise Raine, who helps the family through her methods, were played by Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrn, and Lin Shaye, respectively. Movie enthusiasts love this movie due to its intriguing ideas portrayed in the film and its artistic direction. 

The plot concentrates on a married couple who move into a new house along with their son, Dalton, and an infant daughter. The family experiences paranormal activities after Dalton interacts with an unknown entity that appeared in the attic, making him fall into a coma.

5. Slender Man (2018)

Slender Man was directed by Sylvain White and was produced by Bradley J. Fischer, Robyn Meisinger, William Sherak, Sarah Snow, and James Vanderbilt. Lead roles involving the slender man and Wren were portrayed by Javier Botet and Joey King, respectively. 

The story takes place in a fictional town known as Winsford in Massachusetts, where a group of friends spend a girl’s night together and talk about summoning the Slender Man. They look up the summoning procedure and soon come upon a disturbing video where some sort of ritual is being performed. Unbeknownst to them, the evil entity has been summoned, and one of their friends suddenly disappears shortly after.

6. The Ring (2002)

There are many versions of The Ring, but this one is considered to be the best by many horror movie lovers. The Ring was directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. 

The plot revolves around an urban legend of a cursed videotape. Whoever watches the tape receives a phone call and hears a whisper saying “seven days,” meaning the watcher will die seven days later. Although it is based on a Japanese movie, movie enthusiasts believe this version to be more engaging while staying true to the original.

7. Evil Dead (2013)

Evil Dead is a suspense/horror movie directed by Fede Álvarez and produced by Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi, and Bruce Campbell. Randal Wilson plays the lead role of Mia in this movie. Many movie enthusiasts have praised this movie for a very well-written story with no plot holes and a lot of gore. 

The film is set in a remote cabin where a group of friends decide to spend some time together and help one of their friends overcome heroin addiction. They soon discover an awful smell coming from the basement and find animal corpses, a strange book, and a double-barrel shotgun. One of the friends reads a small part of the book and unknowingly summons a malevolent force that often shows up as their doppelgangers to show disturbing images of themselves and drive them into self-harm.

Eli is a horror film with a unique story directed by Ciarán Foy and produced by Trevor Macy John Zaozirny. The lead role of the child, Eli, was played by Charlie Shotwell, while Lili Taylor portrays Doctor Isabella Horn. Movie critics love the overall concept of this movie and the great ending. 

The plot of the movie revolves around a boy named Eli, who is severely allergic to unclean air and cannot go outside due to this. His parents take him to a secluded treatment facility where he can move around freely as the facility has been modernized and quarantined. Joy turns into fear as supernatural phenomena begin to occur, leaving ambiguous messages and making him doubt the doctor’s painful treatment.

9. The Nun (2018)

Directed by Corrin Hardy and produced by James Wan and Gary Dauberman, The Nun is a supernatural horror movie. The role of sister Irene was played by Taissa Farmiga, whereas the role of the demon was played by Bonnie Aarons. Movie enthusiasts love the 1900s setting and the overall gothic vibe of this movie. 

The story takes place in 1952 in Saint Cartha’s Monastery in Romania. The plot revolves around a demonic entity that appears in the form of a nun and tries to possess the body of other nuns.
