If you mustered the courage to travel solo, you should be proud of yourself. Everyone who has lived or traveled alone has told us what a life-changing experience it is. However, ensuring both safety and enjoyment during your solo travels is paramount. In this article, we’ll share 12 invaluable tips to help you navigate the world with confidence, from choosing destinations wisely to mastering the art of solo exploration.

1. Thorough Research

Amid your excitement to travel solo, ensure you do not forget to research the locations you plan to visit thoroughly. Some places can be unsafe when the sun sets, so leave before time. Make sure you know the exact location of your hotel and the services they provide to enjoy to the fullest. Moreover, you should select a friendly neighborhood for your safety.

2. Buy a SIM

As soon as you land, you should get hold of a new SIM card for that specific place. The sim we have in our hometown may not work in other areas. The phone signals can be a grave issue, so make sure you arrange it as soon as possible to keep in contact with your loved ones.

3. Pack Smartly

In this solo trip, while it may be important for you to keep a variety of outfits to take good pictures, don’t forget to pack the essentials. You should start packing at least 2 to 3 days before leaving so you have enough time to review everything. Do not forget your power banks, chargers, medicines, and appropriate clothing for the weather.

4. Share Location

The most important safety measure is to constantly update your friends and family about your whereabouts. You may think about what they could do to keep you safe, but you never know. Share your location when you get in an Uber or explore any public space.

5. Be Conscious of Surroundings

Firstly, you should ensure the area’s safety when hanging out at a new place after the sun goes down. Stay vigilant if you are walking around a park with headphones on or on call with someone. The worst incidents may occur in the dark and when you lose consciousness of your surroundings.

6. Weather Forecast

While checking where to stay and what to explore, do not forget to check the weather forecast and pack appropriately.

7. Important Documents

While growing up, your parents may have urged you to keep a copy of your certificates and results. Well, this goes a long way. Keep multiple photocopies of your passport, identity cards, and other necessary paperwork. You never know. You might lose it, and that one piece of black and white paper can save you.

8. Get Insurance

I’m sure you know the immense importance of insurance. Like your health insurance, your travel insurance is also crucial. It covers all main categories like cancellation of your flights, medical bills, rental property, and any lost baggage.

9. Safety Lock

It doesn’t matter how safe your stay-in place is; you should always take care of your belongings. Although constantly locking up and unlocking can be a hassle, at least all your valuables will be safe. So make an effort by buying the best safety lock for your backpack and suitcases.

10. Be Friendly

Since you will be traveling solo, you might be worried if you will have any company at all. Well, try to research the culture and interests of the people who will be around you. Have a smile, and be confident in yourself. All locals of an area love to entertain a guest, so believe in yourself and show interest in them, and you will have a thrilling experience.

11. Have Fun In a Limit

While you are excited to have the best time of your life, be careful not to party too hard or too late. This attitude can ruin your entire trip since your safety would be at stake. Since you will be alone, you will have to call an Uber or walk back to your hotel. So make sure not to indulge in activities that may hinder your safety.

12. Trust Your Gut

Even if every piece of evidence in the universe assures the safety of a person or a place, always trust your intuition. Trusting yourself is extremely important since the gut instinct in some people is authentic and can save them from the most harmful situations. So, after taking all precautionary measures, in the end, always trust what your heart says.
